dolce far niente

dolce far niente.definition. pleasant idleness, carefree idleness

                     [literally: sweet doing nothing]

For the first time in my life I have the freedom to do nothing. I wake up when I want and I have nowhere to go, nothing to do. I make brunch whenever I rise, read a book on my porch, play online, call a friend, go for a walk, watch a movie before bed; these have been named in no particular order. I have no agenda, no to-do lists, absolutely nothing to do. It is wonderful. The first three months of Peace Corps service are meant to be dedicated to integrating. My job is to hang out, meet people, strike up conversations, and be seen around my town. The other day I strolled out of bed, walked over to the store inside the neighbor's house in my sock monkey slippers, bought a strawberry soda, drank it at the store's front stoop, handed back the glass bottle, and then went back to bed for a nap. Yesterday I ate chocolate cake, watched the sunset on the beach, and hosted an impromptu lollipops and sparklers party with the neighborhood kids in my front yard. This is my life today.

I took some pictures at Nancy's birthday on the beach yesterday to share. Enjoy!

Thank you for the updates Ana!!!!!! I miss you. I am so glad you are enjoying your time. I think the scorpions walking around pillow would be the biggest adjustment for me. :-o That's awesome that you finally have a chance to relax. I am working on my appication for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. It's a lot like the Peace Corps. Thank you for being an inspiration! : )
