Settling In, Setting In

So I have been waiting to settle in before posting. I have been waiting, and waiting. It has just set in that settling in is not going to happen any time soon. My life in Peru is busy and exhausting and interesting and shocking. I am so far away from settling in! For the next three months I will live with a host family and then I will be placed at my new two year home where I can settle in all over again. So I will post from whatever place I am in this journey. Right now my days are long, I train for ten hours a day in everything from correct handwashing techniques to cultural sensitivity. Everything from the language to the food is different. I feel as though this experience so far has been an exercise in becoming as uncomfortable as humanly possible, literally, as though I am being pushed to the brink of discomfort as proof that my ability to survive is limitless. Which in return makes me as Peruvian as I will ever be. These are people that have survived hundrerds of years of Colonialism, followed by political instability ranging from military rule to dictatroship. They are less than a decade removed from 20 years of terrorism and slowly settling in to democracy. They are just now reaping the benefits of globalism and feeling the aftershocks of becoming one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America. Peru is just now settling in while I am trying to settle into it. I will keep you updated on both of our journeys.
